Andy Moore Appointed South Gower RFC Director of Rugby

Roger Gill11 Mar - 17:00

The former Welsh international expands his long-standing commitment to the club by leading player and coach development across all age groups

As a club we are pleased to confirm the appointment of Andy Moore as Director of Rugby, a role designed to strengthen the club’s long-term player pathway and further align rugby across the club, from minis and juniors through to the 1st XV.

Andy brings both elite playing experience and a decade of hands-on grassroots coaching within the club. A former Welsh international who captained Wales and played at the highest level of the professional game, Andy has spent the last ten years deeply involved at South Gower, coaching across the minis, junior and youth sections alongside his two sons, George and William.

During that time, the club has experienced a period of significant success and growth.

At Youth level, South Gower has established itself as one of the strongest community programmes in the region, winning:

  • Three Ospreys Youth Championship Cups;
  • Two Ospreys Youth Championship League titles;
  • Regional Age-Grade honours, including the Ospreys U16 Champions Cup.

At senior level, the club has also enjoyed a remarkable rise, achieving three consecutive league promotions, reflecting the strength of the club’s player pathway and the work of coaches and volunteers across every section.

The Director of Rugby role has been created to build on this momentum by providing clear alignment across all age groups and supporting the development of players and coaches within the wider Welsh rugby ecosystem.

The position will focus on strengthening the pathway from minis to youth and into senior rugby, supporting coaching development, aligning standards across the club, and ensuring that South Gower continues to play its part in the future of grassroots rugby in Wales.

Chairman Ben Davies said:

"I want to say a massive thank you to Andy for volunteering for this role. Our club has always been built on community and volunteer effort, and over the last decade, we’ve seen our One Club ethos make a huge impact as a result of the incredible work from coaches, players and parents from across all levels within the club.

"Creating this role allows us to take it to the next level and strengthen our pathway even further, making sure young players coming through our junior and youth teams can see a clear future for themselves in South Gower colours."

1st Team Head Coach Dan Cluroe added:

"My focus remains on preparing and leading the 1st XV, but having Andy supporting the wider rugby structure brings real value to the club. It helps ensure players progressing from youth rugby are better prepared for senior rugby and that the standards we set across the club continue to rise."

Director of Rugby Andy Moore said:

"South Gower is everything grassroots rugby should be - a community club where players, parents and volunteers care deeply about the game and about each other. The aim is simple: support our coaches, develop our players and create a clear pathway through the club.

"For some players that means enjoying rugby with their mates and representing South Gower throughout their lives. For others, it may mean progressing into regional, professional or even international rugby. Our responsibility as a club is to create an environment where both of those ambitions can thrive."
