New First XV Coaches Appointed

New First XV Coaches Appointed

Roger Gill11 Apr - 16:30

Introducing our new-look Senior coaching team who bring with them a wealth of experience and ideas as we enter a new chapter in our club's history

We are delighted to welcome Dan Cluroe as South Gower RFC’s new Head Coach and Backs Coach. Dan brings with him years of experience and a strong coaching pedigree, having led Gower College Swansea’s rugby programme for the past 12 years and served as Head Coach of Loughor RFC for the last 5 seasons. Dan has a proven track record of developing and nurturing players as well as creating competitive squads and is the perfect fit for our Seniors as they head into Division 2.

Joining Dan as Forwards Coach is Marc O’Kelly whose experience and knowledge of the game will be invaluable to our young pack. Marc has coached Swansea College / Gower College Rugby and worked across elite development pathways including both the Scarlets and Ospreys Regional Age Grades and Wales U16s. At the senior level, Marc has enjoyed spells coaching Swansea RFC and Loughor RFC. As a player, Marc enjoyed stints at Loughor, Cardiff Met, Aberavon, Carmarthen Quins, Vardre, as well as representing Wales Students and Wales Rugby League.

Completing the new coaching line-up is our very own Sam Court, stepping into the role of Assistant Backs Coach. A proud product of South Gower RFC, Sam has come through our minis and juniors' system (from U6s up to U16s) and has been a key member of our triple promotion-winning Senior team for the past three seasons. Sam’s passion for the club and understanding of the playing group make him a perfect fit to support the backs and build upon the foundations and “Gower” style rugby that Josh put in place.

Incoming South Gower RFC Head Coach Dan Cluroe said:

“I'm extremely excited to get started with South Gower RFC. After watching the success of the club over the past few years and seeing the fantastic talent that has been developed through the junior section it was an easy decision to make as my next coaching role.

“Having coached many of the boys through the College system, I'm hoping for a smooth transition into the role and, hopefully, I can continue to build on the legacy that Josh and Nathan leave behind.

“After meeting with the Club Chairman Ben, it was clear that our ethos regarding the game aligned perfectly, and I can't wait to start this journey with the Seahorses."

Speaking about the new coaching appointments Ben Davies, Club Chairman, said:

“I’d like to say a massive welcome to our new coaching team of Dan and Marc. After meeting with them it was clear to see how closely our values and ethos align, so I’m sure this will be a great fit with our young squad.

“I also want to welcome Sam Court to the team as an assistant coach. Having made an impressive impact in our midfield over the past few seasons we are delighted to have him start his coaching journey with us alongside his playing duties.

“A final thank you to Josh and Nathan for building such a good squad and ethos for the new coaches to take forward. Getting this all sorted so early in the off-season allows us maximum time to prepare the club for our debut season in Division 2.”
