New Rugby Leadership Team Announced

Roger Gill14 May - 16:00

An exciting new leadership structure for the 2026/27 season, built around community, player development and the long-term future of the club

Following one of the most successful periods in the club’s modern history, South Gower RFC now enters an exciting new chapter both on and off the field. Over the past three seasons, the club has achieved back-to-back senior promotions before successfully consolidating in Division Two West Central, while the youth section has continued to thrive, including another outstanding Ospreys Cup triumph this season, the fourth title in five years.

The new rugby structure reflects the club’s commitment to developing local players, strengthening the pathway from youth to senior rugby, and building sustainable success rooted in our strong grassroots identity.

Josh Humphreys Appointed Head Coach

South Gower RFC is delighted to announce Josh Humphreys as the club’s new Head Coach.

A long-serving player and former coach at the club, Josh has been part of South Gower RFC for many years and understands exactly what the club represents - hard work, togetherness, ambition, and pride in developing local players.

Josh has played an important role during the club’s recent successful period and now takes the lead in driving standards, performance, and development within the senior squad.

“I’m incredibly proud to take on the role of Head Coach at a club that means so much to me,” said Josh.

“The foundations at South Gower are really strong. We’ve got talented young players coming through, experienced senior players, and a club culture people genuinely want to be part of.

“This is about continuing to build standards, playing ambitious rugby, and creating an environment where local players can develop, improve and enjoy their rugby together.”

Josh represents the next generation of South Gower leadership, someone deeply connected to the club’s identity and committed to building a successful and sustainable future.

Mike Ruddock Joins as Forwards & Technical Coach

We are also thrilled to welcome former Wales Grand Slam-winning national coach Mike Ruddock OBE to the club as Technical Coach, with a particular emphasis on forward play and technical development.

Mike brings more than 35 years of professional coaching experience and is widely regarded as one of Welsh rugby’s most respected coaching figures.

Among his many achievements, Mike coached Wales to the historic 2005 Six Nations Grand Slam - Wales’ first Grand Slam in 27 years - helping transform Welsh rugby on the international stage. His distinguished coaching career has also included successful roles with Swansea RFC, Leinster, Newport Gwent Dragons, Worcester Warriors, and Ireland U20s.

Importantly for the club, Mike’s connection to the club is also personal. His sons, Ciaran and Rhys, both played junior rugby at South Gower, giving him a long-standing family connection to the club and its values.

“Community rugby is where the real spirit of the game lives,” said Mike.

“South Gower has built something genuinely impressive over recent years, not just in results, but in creating a strong identity and pathway for players coming through the club.

“I’m looking forward to helping develop the technical side of the squad and supporting the next generation of players and coaches at South Gower RFC.”

Aled Williams Added as Kicking Coach

The club is also delighted to welcome former Swansea RFC fly-half and Welsh international Aled Williams to the coaching team as Kicking Coach.

Aled brings a wealth of experience from the professional game and will work closely with players across the senior setup to develop game management, kicking skills, and tactical understanding.

“South Gower is a club with real energy and ambition,” said Aled.

“What impressed me most is the genuine focus on developing local players and creating opportunities for young talent coming through the pathway.

“I’m looking forward to helping players improve technically and contributing to what is clearly an exciting future for the club.”

Sam Court Continues as Assistant Backs Coach

South Gower RFC is also delighted to confirm that long-serving first team player Sam Court will continue in his role as Assistant Backs Coach for the 2026/27 season after beginning his coaching journey with the senior setup last season.

Having been a key part of the senior squad for many years, Sam continues to develop as an up-and-coming coach while supporting the development of the club’s backs and younger players progressing into senior rugby.

“South Gower has always meant a lot to me, so I’m excited to continue developing as a coach and contributing to the club,” said Sam.

“There’s a great group of players coming through, and I’m looking forward to being part of the next chapter.”

Andy Moore Continues as Director of Rugby

Former Welsh international Andy Moore will continue his role as Director of Rugby, overseeing the club’s long-term rugby strategy and development programme.

Andy’s role will focus on aligning junior, youth, and senior rugby throughout the club while supporting player development, coach mentoring, recruitment, and the continued growth of South Gower’s rugby identity.

Like Mike, Andy also has deep family ties within the club, with his own children having progressed through the South Gower junior section.

“What makes this particularly exciting is that it’s built around people who genuinely care about South Gower RFC,” said Andy.

“This isn’t about short-term success, it’s about building a sustainable rugby environment where local players can progress from junior rugby all the way through to senior rugby in a positive, ambitious setting.

“The success we’ve seen at both senior and youth level over recent years has created real momentum within the club. Our responsibility now is to continue building standards, supporting coaches and players, and creating the right environment for young players to thrive at senior level.”

Building for the Future

The club’s recent success has been built on a strong youth-first philosophy and a commitment to developing local talent - values that remain central to the future vision of South Gower RFC.

With experienced leadership, a thriving youth system, and a squad driven by local pride and ambition, the foundations are firmly in place for the next stage of the club’s journey.

South Gower RFC remains committed to creating a rugby environment where players, coaches, volunteers, and supporters can all contribute to a successful and sustainable future together.

One Club. One Pathway. One Direction.
