We Bid Farewell to 1st Team Coaches Dan Cluroe & Marc O’Kelly

Roger Gill31 Mar - 15:45

After a season of progress and consolidation, we thank Dan and Marc for their efforts and wish them well on their next coaching chapter

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the departure of our 1st team coaches, Dan Cluroe and Marc O’Kelly.

Although they only joined us last season, Dan and Marc will be stepping down from their roles at South Gower RFC to pursue new coaching opportunities at a higher level.

Whilst their time with us was short, their impact has been profound, delivering exactly what we asked of them this season - to consolidate our place in Division 2 West Central and strengthen the foundations of our senior squad.

We would therefore like to extend our sincere thanks to Dan and Marc for everything they have done this season and for the way they fully integrated into the club, taking the team to the next level on the field.

On Dan and Marc's decision to leave, Ben Davies, Chairman of South Gower RFC, said:

“Dan and Marc have made a huge impact at the club this season with some cracking memories made, including the away win in Porthcawl, our victory at Underhill Park, and the way we battled back to sign off with a win against Brynamman, to name just a few.”

"After a challenging 2025/26 campaign, their professionalism and commitment lifted the squad and played a vital part in navigating a tough year. Despite our incredible injury list and number of boys travelling, we played some great rugby and solidified our set piece to secure survival with two games to spare."

"It is important to note that grassroots clubs aren't just here to develop players; we are also here to develop and support coaches on their journey up the rugby pyramid. So with this in mind, as both Dan and Marc move up to a much higher level, they do so with our gratitude and best wishes."

Looking back on his time with South Gower RFC, Dan Cluroe said:

“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone associated with South Gower RFC. The club’s officials, players, and wider community have provided a warm and welcoming environment, making my time at the club both enjoyable and memorable.

"While I'm naturally disappointed to be leaving, I am grateful for the experiences and relationships built during my time at the club.

"South Gower remains a club with significant potential, and the appointment of Andy Moore as Director of Rugby shows that the club is moving in the right direction. The club has a thriving mini, junior, and youth section, and this new role will ensure that this talent stays and thrives at Pwlldu Lane.

"I'd like to wish South Gower RFC every success moving forward, and thank you all for welcoming me into the Seahorse family!”

Marc O'Kelly added:

“Huge thank you to all players, officials, and supporters of South Gower RFC for all their hard work and efforts throughout the season. It’s a fantastic community club, and I am delighted that together we were able to secure Division 2 status with games to spare. The future is bright for the seahorses.”

On behalf of everyone at South Gower RFC, thank you, Dan and Marc. All the best for next season and your future coaching endeavours.

The search now begins for new 1st team coaches in readiness for the 2026/27 season. If you or anyone you know is interested, please email Andy Moore - andymoore55@hotmail.co.uk – attaching a CV and covering letter. Coaches and player coaches are welcome to apply.
